Men arrested over raid on Apple store in Regent Street, London
Smash and grab thieves were chased through London at high speed by police cars and a helicopter after a raid on the Apple Store in Regent Street earlier today.
Five suspects on three scooters were seen breaking a 40 cm hole through the toughened glass windows with axes and hammers but they fled empty handed as police arrived just after 1.00 am. It is though officers lost sight of the suspects at first but then one of the scooters was spotted by the police helicopter and the chase resumed. The aircraft tracked two alleged members of the gang to an address in Islington where they were arrested.
In Regent Street today, Apple store workers were clearing up after the attempted raid.
On this occasion, toughened glass appears to have prevented anything being taken from the store. Other security measures that can protect vulnerable shop fronts are window security mesh and shop roller shutters.
