Ram raid at Supermarket in Cowbridge
A red Land Rover is reported to have been used in a supermarket ram-raid in the Cowbridge area. The vehicle was reversed into the shop front by robbers, who then made off with a small amount of stolen goods.
The supermarket ram-raid took place in the early hours of 16th June. The supermarket, which was targeted in the ram-raid, was the Filco store located in the main High Street area of Cowbridge.
Police commented on the case, saying that the robbers used the land Rover to reverse into the shop before one robber was spotted gaining entry to the closed supermarket. The intruder stole ‘a minimum amount of property’ before returning to the vehicle and making a getaway down Cowbridge High Street.
Speaking of the ram-raid, DC Craig Alexander from Barry CID, commented:
“This crime caused a considerable amount of damage while the perpetrators left almost empty handed. We are appealing for any information concerning the red Land Rover which will have a lot of damage to the rear of the vehicle and it also seems that its fuel tank was damaged during the incident.
“We know the vehicle headed toward the traffic lights shortly after 1.30am but want to hear from anyone who may have seen it as it left Cowbridge and what direction it took.”
It is believed the thieves could have got away with a lot more if it was not for the security roller shutters that were in place. Generally, most shops install security shutters to prevent burglary and ram raids. Other useful security measures are collapsible gates, sometimes referred to as lattice gates or retractable gates and also security posts, which can either be fixed into the ground or installed as removable security posts.
