Prolific burglar jailed for four years

A prolific burglar has been jailed for four years after admitting more than 160 offences in Essex and the Metropolitan Police area.

Radas Balkevicius of Daventry Road, Romford pleaded guilty to committing burglaries at Glovers Field, Kelvedon Hatch and Baddow Road, Chelmsford when he appeared at Chelmsford Crown Court on Friday, July 12, 2013.

The 22-year-old also admitted committing many other offences, mainly residential burglaries, after interviews with police officers and these were taken into account when he was sentenced.

Balkevicius travelled across borders to commit crime in Essex and the Metropolitan Police area and was sentenced for a further 60 offences in Essex and more than 100 in the London area.

A/Det Insp Gary McNair said: “The judge has taken into account his cooperation with the investigating officers and clearly without this, a large number of these offences may never have been solved and therefore some form of closure would be denied to many of his victims.

“Burglary is a crime which causes great distress and often hardship to its victims and Essex Police will not cease in our efforts to bring burglars to justice.”

Many home owners will think of installing a burglar alarm to keep their home safe, however, in this day and age, ringing burglar alarms are often ignored.  Additional home security measures such as window bars and roller shutters can be extremely useful in preventing burglary.  Roller shutters are not often thought of as something that can be used in the home, however Continental Shutters are designed for residential security and can be produced in a range of colours to compliment your exterior décor and compliment your external surroundings.
